Please help!

I recently bought a house that has an old hot tub installed outside in the deck. After much deliberation, I decided I had no use for it and decided to remove it. I also decided to do it myself. The hot tub was hooked up to an electrical wire that ran from my house. It has some sort of switch inside a box on the outside and also has its own circuit breaker in my basement, included with all of the others.

My question is how to properly uninstall the electrical outlet outside so I don't cause harm. I have turned off all of the of the curcuits associated with the hot tub and also detached the main wire that wnet from the outside box to my hot tub. Do I just cover the wire up with electrical tape? IS this safe? Should I completely take out the wire? Is everything safe as long as I don't turn on the circuit?

Please help.

The NEC has a new provision that requires you to remove ALL wiring to an abandoned circuit, so you will need to remove all the wires comming from the house, and any conduit associated with it. You will then need to block off any holes and fill any voids in your foundation with expanding foam sealant.
