I'm about install a new spa, but I'm not sure whether I should use a GFCI breaker (i.e. Square D), or a spa disconnect panel that uses a GFCI with a separate contactor. I've heard some people say that a GFCI breaker will trip too often due to the heavy load when the motors start up, and that the spa disconnect panels are designed specially to prevent this. I couldn't tell how big a problem this is, or if it's just hype from people trying to sell their own spa disconnects.

I'd tend to trust a product from Square D more than something from some unknown (to me) company, but I don't want to end up having to replace it if the reports of nuisance tripping are true!

I haven't picked out a spa yet, but it will be 220V 50A. I'll have about 75' of #6 from the main panel to the GFCI, and about 10' to the spa.

Has anyone had problems with a GFCI breaker, and wished they had used a spa disconnect panel instead?
