I smelled burning electronics and opened my controll panel to see the plug for 110v connection and a wire coming off of it smoking and it is burnt. I am running 110v. What would cause this and can it be replaced?
If you can take a pic, it might help...
But usually, with burned wires, it's just a sign that there was a poor connection somewhere, the wires become damaged from the heat... eventually, the copper breaks down, cannot succesfully carry the amperage, overheats, and melts. Usually....
Just cut off and replace the damaged wire, and it should still work fine. If the wire goes into a terminal block, it's likely the terminal block may be melted as well. No biggiem just by-pass it...though I'm not sure where the damage is...you'll need to find it, make good connections, and replace ALL BAD connections. Sometimes, this means replacing a relay or GFCI that are still working, just because the contacts on those peices may be damaged, and unable to carry a high amperage load without melting...
