I just bought a used Jaccuzi tub. If I plug it in, nothing happens. Being new to this, I noticed a few things about it.

It has...

1. An air button installed on the top with a hose leading to an air switch. (Function Unknown)

2. A water pump. (It has two speeds - wiring diagram is attached to motor for low/high speed, neutral, and ground)

3. A water filter.

4. An air pump.

5. A heater with a thermostat.

6. A micro-switch mounted in the tube for the heater. (Function Unknown)

It is an older Jaccuzi model and has no fancy controls or displays. The heater looks like a metal tube with two electrical terminals wired to it. I was told by the seller that the heater with attached wireing box is newer. The seller rewired it when they replaced the heater and wireing box and it has not functioned since. (So I'm told) The heater is manufactured by Pinnacle Systems and has the wireing box hooked to it with all the wiring inside of it. The air switch is also mounted in this box along with a micro-switch down by the heater tube that I have no clue what it does. There are no relays in this wire box at all. It is all 110 volts AC. I disconnected the water jet pump and wired it to a 110v outlet to test it, and it worked fine. I did the same with the air pump and the heater. They all started up and ran great separately.

Here are my questions...

1. What is the air button and switch for? The air switch looks pretty old and rusted. Could this be why it will not run?

2. How are all of these components supposed to be wired in relationship to one another?

3. Does anyone have a simple schematic or wireing diagram of a basic system like this?

4. Is there a certain way this system is supposed to function? If so, how? Example: Heater only works if pump is running or something like that. I don't know how it is supposed to function because this is my first tub and it has never worked yet.

5. What is the micro-switch that is down in the heater tube?

6. Is there a device to keep the pump and heater from starting if there is no water in the tub? Could that possibly be the micro-switch mounted in the heater tube?

Keep in mind that I am an electronics technician and if I know exactly how this thing is supposed to operate, I may be able to figure out the wiring. I can post images of the unit if needed. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

OK, Here is an update. Since the last post, I have done my research and learned more about these spas. I now know more about my spa. Here is some info about it...

It is 110VAC.
It has a filter.
It has a blower.
It has a heater that looks like a stainless steel tube with a control box connected to it.
It has a pressure switch installed in the stainless steel tube that is in the heater.
It has a two speed motor.
It has a thermostat in the control box with a manual turn dial.
It has a high limit switch.
It has a an air button connected to an air switch that has cam action relays that are supposed to run everything.

The heater/control box is manufactured by pinnacle systems.

When I got it, nothing was wired in the control box. I connected 110v to the blower and it turned on. I did the same with the heater and the everything else. The heater also seemed to work. I found that the humming that I heard from the pump was not the pump running, but a stalled pump.

I put 110v to the low speed red wire of the pump and it just hummed, I put 110v to the high speed black wire and it does nothing. I took the plumbing off the pump and checked for blockage or frozen or hard to turn pump, but it turned very easily. I was told that if it hummed, to check the starting capacitor. I checked the capacitor, and it has some stuff leaking from it and when I shorted it with my screwdriver to discharge it, there was no spark, so I think it may be bad. I am just wondering why it made no sound at all on the high speed? Is this normal if the starting capacitor is bad or do you think it may be another problem with the pump?

Now, I am going to try to wire this thing, but I just am not certain about wiring it, especially since the low speed operates with the heater. Do you have a basic wiring diagram or schematic? It looks like a very basic system. It uses an air switch (cam type) to run everything. It has four poles and some poles are single throw and some poles are double throw.

I really need help and would greatly appreciate any info that you can give to me.

Thanks,
