I purchassed a Hot Springs Grandee (G231386) last year and finally got around to installing it. I wired the 50A circuit and connected it to the hot tub. When I turned the GFI breaker on at the cutout box, it trips immediately.

I checked my wiring by disconnecting the hot tub and turning the circuit on. The breaker doesn't trip so my wires aren't crossed or touching. When I hook it up again, it trips.

I disconnected every plug from the control box (one at a time) trying to get it to work but it is a no go.

I read about a door interlock switch on here. Mine had a door switch but the old owner cut it and tied the wires together.

Any ideas? It supposedly worked when I got it. It was from my brother's friend. I need to get this thing going ASAP.

Thanks in advance, John.

Where did you wire the neutral (that runs between the spa and breaker) in the sub-panel?

Do you have a single 50 amp GFCI breaker in the sub-panel, or GFCI 20 and GFCI 30 amp 220v breakers that are supplied by a 50 amp breaker, and is that one GFCI? Which breaker trips?

I have a 50A breaker in the box (house), and a 50A GFI breaker in the spa box. I looked at the GFI breaker and it doesn't have a spot on it for the neutral wire. I have them all wired to the neutral bar. Does this matter? I have the spa box set from menards (Square D GFI breaker). If I disconnect the hot tub, the breaker doesn't trip. Should I put in a bigger breaker at the house box? I am running 8 gauge wire, roughly 75 feet.

Look closer at the 50 amp GFCI breaker. There is an additional N terminal. Running the N to the Bus bar will cause instant trip.

3 terminals + 1 permanently attached pigtail wired to the GFCI breaker. 2 Hot's run to spa, One neutral run to spa, and pigtail to N Bus bar.

Hope that's clear :)

I looked again and didn't see it. Got down on my back and finally saw it. I rewired it and it turns on now :) . Now I have to figure out the other problems. Thanks, John.
