I recently came into an older/used 220V spa. The spa was previously hardwired into a 220V circuit. The location of the spa at my house currently has a 220V 60 circuit female outlet installed where the previously owner used to backfeed a generator in emergencies. I was thinking of hardwiring the same type of male 220 plug to the spa and just plugging it in. I was planning on installing a GFCI to this circuit also. Any input on this matter or do you experts feel I should just hardwire the circuit. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

60 what? Hertz or Amps?
What's the amp draw of the spa? What's the circuit rated for? How many wires on the spa? In the US, most 220v spas use 4 wires. (2 hot, 1 neutral, one ground)

I have run into about 17 spas that had a male to female plug like you are talking about right at the tub. "if your tub wants two hots neutral and ground" The only prob I see with that is in every one I ran into the male plug and female outlet get VERY warm cause of the restriction it causes. However I have not seen any burn up.
Just remember a 220-240v spa is drawing more on continuous basis then a household electric dryer or oven range. esp if you live in the north east due to the tub heater kicking on more often, but make sure you have the proper size wire, braker, gfci. also if yuo spa is located out doors you will want that outlet and plug in a enclosure/weather proof box or inside the enclosure of the tub at the point making is useless to even do it.
If it was me I would run directly into the spa. just my thoughts.. others might dissagree
