I have done a lot of electrical wiring on my house in the past and am in the process of installing a outdoor spa. I will be running 6 AWG/3 + ground to the spa disconnect. Outside the wire will be run through Schedule 40 PVC (water tight) conduit. Can the electrical wire (6 AWG/3 + Ground) be indoor wire (NM-B) or does it have to be outdoor wire (UF-B).
Thanks
Dave

Dave, you will have to check with your local Electrical Codes, but here, in the city I live in, I know it has to be in metal conduit to a certain depth under the surface after that it can be in PVC. It is a safety thing, the chance of you hitting the electrical unless it is deep underground is greater so they want it in metal. Check your local codes.

I ageee, where I live it must be >= 18 " deep to be in PVC. Any thoughts on the wire type?

Use THNH or THWN for your wire. It is perfect for running through schedule 80 (don't use sch40 underground) pvc and has a higher ampacity. Bury it 18" deep as to the National Electric Code. Use 1 1/4" conduit for 3 #6 and 1 #8 (gnd). You can use 1", but if you have elbows, LB's, or the like, you will wish you went 1 1/4". This is assuming you will be burying any portion of the conduit.
