Hi, I have a Hot Springs Sovereign, early 90's and would like to do two things. One add an ozonater, and secondly, tell me if this is crazy but since I live in upstate NY I would like to heat the water from my boiler and also store the water from the tub in separate tank in my basement between uses. The electric heating costs are high and the thermostat/heat elements require replacement every few years. I have a 110v installation so the heater isn't on when we use it anywany. any thoughts?

have you weighed the costs of the transfer pumps that would be required, the extra storage tank, fuel costs to heat the water, and transfer plumbing? Hot tubs don't really cost that much to run, usually around 30-50 a month electrically heated. Gas heated tubs run about 2/3's that cost, but at a higher equipment cost to do so. The advantage of course is the faster heating ability. Things I would be concerned with is the chemical content of the spa water entering the boiler of your home. It will be considerably more corrosive than a closed loop your home uses for heating. Boilers are not cheap, and you would be seriously accelerating the need to purchace a new boiler in short order.

I haven't figured out the costs because I'm not too sure whats involved.
I would use a coil in the storage tank and separate zone off the boiler, What is appealing is better control of the water temp and not having to mess with the controls every few years, and its no picnic messing with it when its 10 degrees outside. I only use the tub in the winter, and usually only on weekends so my heating costs (about 100/mo) should go down a fair amount. One of my main concerns is could I drain it thoroughly enough to get all the water out of the pumps and lines so they wouldnt' freeze up?

not very likely...usually you have to add rv antifreeze to ensure any remaining water doesn't freeze
