Greetings from Texas!

I recently inherited a Circa 1990 100 Series Coleman Spa and I am wondering if it is worth rehabbing. So far here are the things that I have run across that need fixing......

Owner told me that there was a leak in the wet end of the pump and that the $10 seal needed to be replaced.....Turns out the Impeller is frozen to the shaft of the pump motor and I am going to have to replace the whole pump. Or at least that is what I am thinking after reading some of the posts on here.

Next, all of the wood is rotted and has termite damge, so I have thrown away all of the skirts and I am going to have to reframe the shell. Not sure how to go about that yet. :)

In addition, there are several hairline cracks that have turned brown and there are even a couple that are oozing brown stuff out of them. I am not sure if these are full blown cracks that will leak or if they are just cosmetic, but I am thinking that the brown oozing is not good. :) Any advice on fixing these would be greatly appreciated.

I have completely drained the Spa and used a shopvac to completely drain all the hoses. In addition I have thouroughly cleaned out the shell to remove the chemical deposits. Scrubbing Bubbles was the magic touch here. My next step is to decide whether it is worth continuing since the spa is so old. It still has a great shine to it and the price was right. FREE!

If I continue on the rehab path I am going to have to fix the cracks, buy a new pump, reframe it, and build skirts at a minimum. Is it really worth trying to save a Spa that is 15 years old? How many more years could it really have left?

Depending on my decision, I will be back on here to pick the brains of the pros to help me along my journey.

Thanks In Advance for all your help!

What's it worth to you? To me, the challenge is enough to continue working on it. A pump isn't a lot to replace. The cracks can be filled with epoxy. The skirting can be redone no problem (I have a post on here where I did that very thing). Figure you will have your time, and perhaps up to 500 invested. Sure beats a 5000 price tag for a standard spa!

I had a similar scenario. I 'inherited' a 1992 Coleman 400 Series. One thing my wife and I did was shop for a new spa...just to see what we were up against if we decided to replace versus repair. To get a decent spa we were looking at about $6000-$7000, if not more. I have bad freeze damage and have to re-plumb the spa, replace the system board (which is why is froze) replace a pump and while I am in there, replace some jets. It has taken me quite a while to strip out the foam insulation, but I am almost ready to order PVC and jets. It came down to time and money versus how much it would cost to replace. From what I have read here, it is usually worth repairing the spa. Just my thoughts and experience.
