My spa is working fine now, but I was thinking about the future when it comes time to rehab it as major parts start going or when I need to buy a whole new pack for it. It would be nice to "simplify" the mechanicals by replacing the two original pumps with one single pump. But is it possible to do that?

Would you simply add the HP of the old pumps together to get the required HP for the new single pump?

If this is possible, would it be possible to take the two (flex) outflow pipes from each of the old pumps and "Y" (or "T") them together to a single outflow from the one new pump's output, or would that not work properly?

If that is doable, what you would do with the second inflow pipe that fed the second pump?

Is this kind of rehab even possible or must a spa designed originally for 2 pumps always have two physical pumps? I would have guessed as long as you provide the required HP to move the water at the same rate, it would work, but it seems likely I'm oversimplifying.

Thanks.

I wouldn't even think of doing something like this. It will cost you more money and time to replumb it and besides, you have a better spa with two pumps.
