Hi..

We just moved an older 117 VAC spa, which has not run for a number of years. We have no previous history on it.

The water pump works fine, and provides flow, but the heater element is not getting power (front indicator light not on, AND measred with a meter).

Did some troubleshooting, and found that there is a water pressure switch that controls electrical current to the heater.

Electrically, this swich works when I give it some air pressure by blowing in it.

My questions are: How is this supposed to work under normal circumstances? Does water from the output of the pump actually make it's way to the switch diaphgram (sp?), or???? Is it possible that I have an airlock there? If so, any suggestions on how I remove this airlock (the pressure switch is mounted lower than the point where it senses water from the pump outlet (just before the heater) and the tubing does not have any "high points".

Any help and guidance on this one would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Al

File comment: Water pressure hose travels from "side" of "TEE", then down and around to side of control box, where it connects directly to the pressure switch inlet.

If the water pressure is adequate, it is likely that the pressure switch is weak (as you have tested it with air). Have you verified that the heater comes on when you apply pressure to the switch with air? If so, then just take that knurled knob at the top of the switch and re-adjust it counter-clockwise to lower the pressure it needs to sense.
