Folks,

We bought our home with a non-functioning PDC hot tub. The previous owner hadn't used it in a few years (I believe he said the blower wasn't working), and I haven't messed with it for a couple more. I don't know the model, but the serial number is 991804. The deck was built to accommodate the tub and give it privacy. It's a nice setup, but would obviously be better if it worked.

It has seats for five including a lounger, plus a warming seat. It has six jets and lots of bubble action holes. The tub seems to be in good shape, but that's about it. The jets look good, but the gaskets beneath the jets appear dry-rotted. The top of the tub has two large buttons (air switches???) and two dials. The pack is outside the tub, and the cedar/plywood box around it is rotting away. I cleaned and filled the tub a year or so ago, and the pack caught fire where the 240V electrical line connects when we applied power. With my busy schedule, I drained it and basically gave up. I've included a few pics, and have a couple more if anyone is interested.

We've been looking at a new Sundance Caprio, but I keep wondering if what we have could be fixed economically. When is it not worth the effort?

Thanks,

deadhead

I have just spent most of the summer rebuilding my spa. I too have very little time with my day job getting in the way but I can say that it was worth it to me. I replaced all plumbing, jets, air controls, the control system, the skirt and a nice new custom cover to top it all off. It just takes time, patience, LOTS of planning but it can be done. Three months part time and about $2000 later I have a spa that works great and I'll know what goes wrong if it does.
