I have a 1994 Cal Spa model ps5b that I have recently acquired. I've replaced the heater assembly, and the timer, as well as a couple of the jet bodies. Now several of the air switches or buttons seem to have gone bad. I can't get the air pump to start, nor can I get the light to turn off, nor can I turn off the jets and the wave jet button doesn't work at all. All of this was working fine for a couple of hours and then all the sudden the air pump wouldn't come on (warm air blower will however) and I can't turn light or jets off. My question is: How can I tell if I need to replace the air buttons, or if I need to replace the air switches? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am assuming you mean an aquarium style air pump going to a box? That would be for Ozone generation. For now we won't worry about that. Do you have an air operated cam switch or a solenoid operated cam switch? You will know the difference by seeing if the cam switch is plastic or metal. If it's metal, its the solenoid type, and your plunger could simply be stuck. If it's the plastic air operated switch, check to see that the air button is pushing the diaphragm down. Most of the time air switch problems can be corrected by reconnecting a hose that came disconnected. Not too often do the switches actually go bad. If you suspect the buttons (belows) you can disconnect the air tube from under them and blow into the tube to activate the switches.

Thank You Charger 1 for your assistance:
It seems that the cam switches are air operated as they are in fact plastic. When I disconnect the aquarium line from the bottom of the buttons and blow in them, they still don't work. As for an aquarium pump acting as a ozonator: My spa has a button marked "air" a button marked "warm air". When I push the button for the warm air, a pump comes on. When I push the button marked air, I don't get anything. But it looks in no way like any aquarium style air pump that I've ever seen. Not really a big deal as I am fairly certain that it is working properly. This spa sat unused for many years so I have been finding that the more I run it, the more little bugs I get worked out. I'm planning to take out the air switches one by one and clean them with electrical cleaner and then put them back in. I appreciate the help that you've given. Thanks.

The comment about the aquarium style air pump is specifically used for a very limited number of ozone generators. I didn't know if this is what you had or not. I would now assume you don't. Regarding the air switches and cleaning them with electrical cleaner, be cautious as some electrical cleaners can eat certain types of plastic.
Good luck!
