Hi,
I need some advice on what may be causing blown relays on my heater control board. Some quick background--I purchased the spa new in October 2002. It has always been wired and jumped for 240V off of a subpanel with a 30A & 20A breaker.
Recently, I moved to a new home, hooked it up the same way and it worked for about a month, then relay #1 blew. (See picture, relay #1.) I replaced the relay, then relay #3 blew.
Is the board just old and need to be replaced? Should I just keep replacing the relays? I think it is the IQ2020 board.
OR, is there something else that could be causing the problem?
I've read some posts that infer this is a common problem and all I need is to replace the board. I'd hate to replace the board and have the relays blow again...
Thank you for your help!

There wasn't enough solder on the traces. A New heater PCB uses more, and fixed the issue

...Or you can go the poor man's route... Replace the relays, and then solder heavy gauge wire pigtails from the relay posts to the terminals. Prolly last longer than even a new board.
Sad fact is none of today's on board relays are strong enough to handle the high inductive resistance from a heater, long term. The ideal solution is to add a mercury wetted contactor in place of the onboard relays....but that costs money.

Since I haven't had a chance to order the new board, I'll try the pigtail route to see if this works...
Any idea on where I can buy 1 relay? Omron #G8P-1C4P-V-DC18
Thanks guys.

I'm having the same problems on my Caldera Spa I've had for four years. Last year K-1 blew and I was able to find the 12 volt replacement, but this year K-3 blew and I can't find the 18 volt coil voltage version of this relay anywhere. HAWK_ have you been able to find this part?

Hawk,
I am also in need of these relays (Omron #G8P-1C4P-V-DC18) , one for sure, possibly two. Still have any available? or at least where else I can find them.
My Hot Springs Spa heated up traces also. (Darn INVENSYS CONTROL product)
Thanks

Looks like I am having the SAME problem.
My black and white wires were getting really hot and the casing on the wire actually cracked.
I checked volts from the leads to the ground and I have 115v on the white side and I have 0v on the black side.
I would love to just replace the relay rather than the whole board if thats possible. Thanks in advance!
Matt
