Hi all,

I was taking a look at the electrical work that I hired out for my new 220 volt spa. I recall reading that 6-guage was required, and that it had to be stranded. The cable that the electrician used is 6-gauge (labeled "6/3 with ground"), but it is solid, not stranded.

Is there any reason that solid would not be acceptable for a 220v hard-wire spa installation?

The 2 main reasons that stranded wire is preferred over solid wire are:

1.) The flow of the elctrons through the wire occurs on the outer surface, so the individual strands increase the flow and decrease the generation of heat in the wire.

2.) Stranded wire can handle flex and movement better then solid wire.
