To anyone who can help,
I have a California Cooperage hot tub, model #105, by Coleman. It was built in Nov. ’98. My problem with the tub is that it won’t heat up past 95 degrees and it took over a week to get to that temp.
When I plug in the tub, the control panel comes on showing the current temperature of the water and if the heat temperature setting is set at a higher temperature than what the water is, the “heating” light turns on as if everything was OK. But, the water temperature is not changing. It only moves a small amount based on ambient temperature and pump motor heat.
I changed the heater element based on some “technical information” I received from my Spa dealer. Unfortunately, that did not solve the problem. ($75 later and the threat of a 40% restocking fee, I now have an extra element)
After doing some diagnosis and testing of my own, I have discovered that the element is not getting any current at all. I have checked all of the wiring for anything loose and have had no such luck. I bypassed the pressure switch by removing the two wires and connecting them together with a jumper. This didn’t solve the element problem either. I have removed the filter just to be sure that it wasn’t a flow problem but that didn’t help.
I don’t know what else to do. It has the appearance that everything is functioning properly, but it just isn’t getting any electricity to the copper tabs that the element screws on to. I did have it operating this summer and it was able to get up over 100 degrees at that time. We shut it down after just a few days though because we weren't using it. At that time, I did have to replace the pump motor as it was seized. I give up. Any suggestions on something I’m missing? Thanks in advance!
Beau
