well I just inherited a proform magna spa. It was working fine before I took it over. I got it hooked up and it was running for about 10minutes. Then is shut tripped the GFI and now it trips the GFI immediately. I have been researching and one question I have is why does the GFI box need to be at least five feet from the tub? I have mine about three feet away mounted on a 4X6 post on my deck about waist level? Could this be the reason for the GFI to trip? Any help would be appreciated.

I'd definitely check your heater for a ground fault... heater failure can occur during start up. YOu'll need to check with your meter set to the most sensiitve ohm setting...POWER OFF>>>from either heater lead to ground... any reading indicates its bad.

I will check that. I should also comment that this spa is just a year old. It has me boggled as it was running fine for the first ten minutes.

We have heater elements! AND I wanted to address your question about the 5 foot rule... the Gfci box is supposed be OUT of a 5 foot reach path from the spa.. in otherwords you should not be able to touch it from the spa itself.
