Just got my monthly electric bill, the first full month of running my SPA and it's the highest bill I've ever received in my 15 years of living in this house. Would be far cheaper to just get a Health Club membership and then I'd have other options such as a steam/sauna and exercise equipment.
I'm rethinking this whole SPA thing.

I have a very nice cover and the SPA is a Liesure Bay make. Has the black spray'd on insulation which I acknowledge is not as good as the foam, in my opinion anyway.
I did have some guests over the holidays but it's not that cold here in Florida. If this thing costs me $50 or more to run in a month, I'll get rid of it. I can get a health club membership for that and the health club has a lot more benefits.
I'm disappointed to say the least.

Ok, Is it indoor or outdoors?
Is it 120 or 220 volt?
Do you have it on the summer timer or just running all the time?
what year is it?
Little more info would help us out with giving you suggestions on how to lower your power bill.
I have a tub from 1994 with the original 220v equiptment, All mechanical. No computer board. And Im in Maine with my tub outside with a cover and ive been able to keep my power bill at $18.00 a month more due to my tub, my bill is never more then $65.00 a month sence I got my tub..
So if you can give more info about your tub maby we can help a little more

The SPA is a 2003 model (S3) Liesure Bay. It sits outside, next to my house under an awning. It sits on concrete. I had it on continuous run to maintain 101 degrees, then I'd bump it up to 104 when I was ready to use it. It would climb to 104 quickly. I have it on the ECO (economy mode) now so "maybe" I'll have better luck in the next bill. I love this SPA and am hoping I can justify keeping it online.
I bought it used and it was setup as 110v, which I changed to 220v. The SPA is designed for both and the change was very easy.
I have it on a 50 amp circuit with a square D box. Everything works great and I'm very pleased with the performance. It will climb to 104 from 96 degrees in very short period of time. It drops down to 96 when in ECO mode. Maybe I'll save on my power bill in this mode?
I estimate it added about $60 to my bill. If I only had it add $18, I'd be one happy camper....

My SPA has a pump that runs all the time. Is this normal?

The pump that runs all the time is a 24/hr circ pump, and they're very common. Yours draws almost 1 amp.
Under normal conditions, the spa might cost about 30 dollars/month, if the usage is heavy. It's very common for peopel to assume the reason their electric bill is high is because of the Spa, but I've never seen it happen.
We have a meter we use to hook up to the customers house (like the one on the side of your house) when they feel the spa is consuming too much power. Granted, I'm in Florida, where it doesn't get chilly like many other parts of the country, but I've never seen one use more than 30 dollars per month. The average is around 20-25.
I'd suggest asking your local spa dealer if they have such a device, and see if they'll hook it up for you.

I have engaged the built in timer Liesure Bay refers to as their "Economy" mode setting. Will be interested in the next power bill. Hopefully, it will be much reduced. This BIG bill we got was during the holidays and we did have some houseguests then so maybe that pushed it up, then add on the SPA costs and I'm at the highest bill ever.
If I can run it for $30 or less, I think I'd be happy. But even that's pushing it. A local health club would cost me $50/month and they have considerably better resources/equipment than I have. To include steam rooms and saunas as well as their own SPA. About all I have with my SPA to compete with the club is convenience.

One month of reduced use with the SPA on ECO mode. Still very high power bills. I knew the cost of running the SPA would cost something but these costs are unacceptable. Darn shame as I enjoy it so much. But now I'm considering getting rid of it.
My estimation was the SPA added between $35 and $45 to my power bill. And this is with minimal use and the SPA settings on the lowest most economical program. I can see now why the previous owners sold it at such a low price. They just wanted to get rid of it.
