Post subject: HotSpring Jetsetter heating problems jets work though
PostPosted: Wed Mar 09, 2005 10:52 pm
I have a HotSpring Jet Setter spa that will not heat up. It worked fine about a week ago but now is very cold and will not heat up. It hums when turned on but water does not circulate through the clear hose that goes to the heater. It says it is a model J followed by J-151469. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Jetsetter too. Have you checked the circulation pump for junk? Maybe take the hose of it and make sure it is not blocked. That humm could even be a jammed pump or there could be a short. Can't get heat without circulation....

Mine has been noisy for years and still works. It is the original one from 1987!

I am now certain it is not the pump because I just purchased a new one even though I probably could have just kept using my old one now that I know it is okay if they are noisy. I will check to see if there is junk in the pipes. If there is a short where would it most likely be located? The surge protector does seem to trip a lot.

If you have a a new circulation pump already, try checking your filters. In 1995, Hot Springs used a flow switch in their heater circuit, and a clogged filted will limit the flow of water through the heater, and will not be enough to close the flow switch. (Your spa was made in 1995)

Also, if you old circulation pump was making noise, it needed replacement. You have a Laing 500 circ. pump, the 1988 HS used a laing 303. The 303 could run for years while making noise.... the 500, it starts making noise and it's light out....

You also mention you "surge protector" tripping... Do you mean the GFCI, the breaker in your house, or the spa's internal electronic high limit? (blinking red power l.e.d.)

You either have a dirty filter, an air bubble stuck in the circ pump (needs priming) or your new circulation pump has failed.
