Post subject: 24 hours to heat my tub????
PostPosted: Fri Apr 01, 2005 7:12 pm
I moved into a place that has a spa / hot-tub, whatever you want to call it, in the bathroom. I was excited when I first saw it, until I learned how painful it is first to fill it, then to drain it (that was after I discoverd that it leaked at the filter housing). So now I fixed that, filled it up again, and now I just learned that this 1.5KW, 120 volt heater would take 24 hours to heat the water in this thing! Who the hell runs a hot tub for 24 hours, just to get the water up to temp? That's insane! Why even make a hot tub that takes 24 hours to heat up? I don't get it.

Well, guess I'll be taking my girlfriends advice and rip this thing outta here and put in a nice clawfoot tub. Rats.

at 120V with a 1.5KW heater?, yeah, a day sounds about right. Things that will help heat it and maintain the heat is to make sure that you have a good insulating cover on it at all times, and ensure that the sides are insulated as well.

If you still insist on getting rid of the unit, and are near the upper midwest, let me know ;)

The spa is kept hot all the time. You only drain it every 2 months or so. It is not filled, used once, and emptied like a bathtub. Keep it covered when not in use. You also need to learn about chemicals (dichlor or bromine) for sanitizing the water. Read, read, read.
