Post subject: Old Sundance Pump motor help
PostPosted: Mon May 30, 2005 8:10 pm
Got a Sundance 624 spa with my house. 240volt, pump motor not working. I checked power at the motor, and I got 120 to two of the wires, one is ground and one it nuetral I think. Figured motor might be bad, after replacing it, no different. ANy suggestions as to where I can look next? Thanks!

I believe that you should be measuring 240 volts between the two leads that are reading 120. If not you may have an open run or bad relay on your circuit board.

4 wires to the pump, right? And you're sure the pump is 240v? (in some 240 spa's, the pump and air blower are 110v...I'm not familiar w/ sundance, so I have to ask dumb questions!) Likely a two speed pump. The 4 wires compose of: 1 wire high speed hot, 1 wire low speed hot, 1 wire common (hot), and one wire ground. (If the pump were 120v, the only difference is the common would be neutral instead of 120v)

In a 240v pump, the common will always be 120v, probably should meter between common, and either low or high speed to be sure the pump is getting 240v.

There should be a wiring diagram on the side of the jet pump, thoug it's not always easily accesable.

As far as suggestions, I'm not too familiar with your spa. Is the control box a circuit board, or is it composed of seperate relays and switches? Are there any other things that work, or are not working? Do you get any error codes (if digitial) on the topside?
