Working with a 20 year old Hercules spa pack...

The heat on this thing never shuts off when the pump is running. I verified that the thermostat is bad and am replacing it. Here's where I have a question...

The thermostat capillary tube is actually clamped to the OUTSIDE of the heater. Is this going to work OK?

Here's a picture. Yeah...I know it's not pretty... :)

should work, but better if it was on the input side of the heater so that the heater does not affect reading of actual water temp in low flow conditions - insulate the sensor to better read pipe/spa water temp and not under skirt temp

Thanks for the reply. The capillary tube was underneath some sort of black goo...so I guess that was the insulation you were suggesting. I'll install the new thermostat and see what happens. :D

You think my control pack looks rough...you should see the actual tub!!!

I'm going to limp this old girl through the summer and see how it goes. If I decide to replace the pack, I will definitely be coming your way!

Hello spa babe!

I also have one of these old Hecules units that has been working pretty well for a couple of years since I rebuilt the tub....nice and simple. I saw in this post that you have a replacement available and was wondering what that unit would be. I currently am having issues which I think may be the themostat. I have power going to the timer and outlet yet no jets heat, etc.....when rotating the temp selecter there is no clicking to indicate that the themostat is working ( got that from your articles ) ..so anyway may be looking to upgrade in the future and would like to see what you recommend. Thanks......
