I got a "free" spa from a homeowner who upgraded. It is a 7-person tub with the control/pump/filter mounted on a separate base.

The Pump and filter are Hayward brand and look to be in good condition (note: I have not tried to power up any of this yet). The control box is a Hydro Research brand and I can find no reference to or Mfgs web site so I assume they have been out of business for some time.

I would like to try and get the spa up and running with this system, "as-is" as it was supposedly a working system before it was removed.

The label on the control panel says "11kv 70amp" which sounds high compared to what I've been reading and spa GFI disconnect panels are only 50 or 60 amp so I'm not sure how I can even wire this thing up since it is rated higher than a normal spa panel.

Here's a couple of pics.

Comments?!? Suggestions?!?

Honestly, with an 11.5kw heater, you're better off getting rid of that stuff and installing a new system that'll work the way you want it to.

Considering the cost of wiring these days, a new system that'll work on 50 amp service seems to be quite cheap considering the wiring cost.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I'm inclined to agree that the old stuff may be more trouble than its worth.

I looked at the new digital packs at your link and they sure look nice. One thing I'm curious about, would that little 4kw heater be sufficient? I mean, that is only 1/3 the capacity of the old 11kw one?

Thanks for your help!

Absolutely, I replace this junk all the time. Just shorten up the lines as close as possible to the tub so you're heating the tub, not the pipe and the 80 feet of pvc that was in the old installation.

That's what the 11 kw was for. Heating everything else but the tub.
