Post subject: #6 or #8 wiring
PostPosted: Sat Jun 11, 2005 11:28 pm
I am in the process of doing the pre-wiring for a LeisureBay spa. I've read over several forums and many mention running #6 wire however the electrician says I can use #8. I will be wiring into my main outside panel to a disconnect box 75ft away. The spa has two motors and a 4kw heater. Which wire should I use?
Thanks Rick

Hi, What will you total amp load be? What voltage, 208 or 240? What kind of wire, copper or aluminum?

240v, copper wire, 50-amp circuit, 75' run one way, #8 wire is the minimum and is within the National Electric Code (NEC). If you can fit it in the conduit, and the cost is reasonable, you could use the #6 wire, it is an extra insurance.
