 Hi: I am new to this forum. I have a 1995 Sovereign Hot Springs Spa that I bought used last winter. It has a leak which appears to be the light, which has a crack in the lens cover. The light works and tub seems to be fine, but I am losing water. There is a bluish residue around the lens and there is water in the bottom of the compartment. I assume it is the light leaking. Is this difficult to repair? I called my local Hot Springs dealer and they just want me to trade it in on another, but did quote about 400 dollars to repair. Do you think it is possible to repair on my own?

You can fix it in about 20 minutes. Also, check to make sure that there are no cracks beginning to form in the shell surrounding the light lens or the step above it. If you have a white shell then the cracks will look like dark lines and you can feel the split if you run your finger nail over it.

1. Chip the old lens out with a small, very flat pry-bar or chisel and a hammer...sometimes they almost fall out by themselves after a few hits around the edges.

2. Grind off the old adhesive material with a 3"grinder or something similar.

3. Then take a small rotary file that fits into a drill and run it around the opening

4. Place the new light in to make sure it fits...if it does then put a bead of devcon around the rim and install the new retro-fit light.

I have the new light lens and the Devcon (which fits into a regular caulking gun) for under $100 if you need them.

:D Dan:
Thank you for your reply, Dan.

That sounds good to me. I think I should be able to do that myself if that is all it takes. When I get home, I will look for more cracks in the tub, now that I know what to look for, just to be sure there aren't more issues to deal with.

I read a few of the posts here and it sounds like I need to dry out the control department and be sure that is where it is leaking. I'll dry it out with a towel and take another look before I order the part. The light does have a crack in the lens and it looks like someone tried to repair it. I bought it used last winter from a private individual who had it sitting empty.

I'll get back to you tomorrow after I've looked again at the tub in the daylight.

:) Hi Dan:

I looked very carefully at my hot tub and I don't see any fine cracks. I am pretty sure it is coming from the light due to the bluish crud around the light where the crack in the light is located.

So, I am interested in purchasing the light kit, etc that you indicated you have. Please let me know at your earliest convenience how to go about this transaction.
