We have an Arctic Spa that my wife bought in 2005 before we were married so I don't know all the specifics of the model. I think it's a Legend series becaue it has 3 pumps. Recently one of the hose joints leaked and as a result my #1 and #2 pumps got submerged in water and the GFCI flipped. I got all of the water out and let it dry for a few days but the GFCI still flipped off as soon as I turned it on. By unplugging one pump at a time, I was able to deterine that Pump 1 was the one tripping the GFCI. The store that sold her the hot tup is no longer in business and there are no Arctic dealers nearby so I called a generic Pool and Spa place. They fixed the lead and replaced pump 1 (a 2-speed, 12 amp).

The spa is working but the pump 1 speed seems different. Pump 1 used to run at a very low speed during the heat/filtration cycle. If you pressed pump 1 button once, it ran at low speed but higher than the heat/filtration and if you pressed it again, it ran at high speed. Now when we press pump 1 button it seems to run at the heat/filtration speed and when we press it again it runs at what used to be the low speed.

Does this seem right? Is it possible the pump is wired wrong? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance.

So you are saying that it had 3 speeds before...a heat/filtration speed, a second low speed, and a high speed? I've never heard of that...but I have never worked on an Artic spa.

Most pumps that run heaters have just a low speed (while heating) and a high speed.

The more I think about it, I'm pretty sure it's always been a 2-speed pump. So maybe the low speed is just lower than it used to be and the hi-speed definitely does not seem as powerful as it used to be. I know I'm starting to sound like a moron but it's hard to tell. I just know it seems to be less powerful than before and my wife noticed it too. I don't have the old pump to compare to the new one, but my 1-speed pump 2 is a 12 amp so I'm guessing 12 amp is right for the 2-speed pump 1.

Our two-speed motor is 240V, 12.9A on high (3420 RPM) and 3.2A on low (1740 RPM). It could be that the replacement motor is not running at those speeds. If you used a different wet-end, you may also have different flow and pressure characteristics.

You will find the serial number for your spa on a small metal plate on the bottom of the skirt on one side. It will look like A05BX99999-CO. Please email this number to info@goarctic.com Attn: Warranty with your wife's name, the name of the original dealer, a full description of the first issue, the action you took, and your current concern.

If your wife is the original owner, this unit should still be under warranty. Any change to the components, replacement of components, or addition of components without written factory authorization will void your warranty, as will alteration or repair of the spa by anyone other than a factory authorized service technician.
