Well I screwed up, I turned the spa off for a month and now I can't get heat. After reading every post regarding pumps and heaters on this site, I'm looking to see what I can troubleshoot before having to have someone come out. Your help is greatly appreciated in advance.
1998 Cal Spa Model # C11GD - Genesis Dated 3-1-98 SN# 6435
I refilled the spa about a month ago, and at that time I believe everything was running fine. Pump was getting a little noisy, so I decided to turn the whole thing off for a while. Now when I turn the breaker to start everything up, I get nothing, I can't even turn it on manually with the push button. After about 20 seconds, a relay clicks and continues with a humming sound for 20 seconds (heater?)which is followed by another click and it shuts off. During the time the heater starts and anytime after, I am able to manually start a pump (high pump?) my pressing the "jets" button, 2 or 3 times, 1 time does nothing (low circ.pump?). The heater will continue to click on for 20 seconds every 10 minutes or so, but I believe the pump isn't working so it shuts it self off. Both pumps are 4 bhp and are the original pumps.
So my question is...Is there anything that I can do to check to see if I can get this pump going, or am I just in serious denial and I should someone to replace a pump. I don't want to spend alittle to fix something that isn't broke, although I'm guessing its the pump from the loud noise was making. It's getting pretty cold in Michigan and that water is about 38 degrees, so I have to do something soon. Thanks again to anyone who took the time to read this.
I did find this in a previous persons post, but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot them "faulty pump capacitor, faulty circuit board relay, failed low speed winding in motor"
Kind regards,
Jim

if your pump was getting noisy, then that means your bearing was about to die. Most likely it's the front bearing, getting wet, from a leaking pump shaft seal. What probably happened is in the time that you let it sit, the bearing rusted in place, and now of course doesn't spin. You could take a channel lock plier and grab the shaft and see if it will break loose, but you are most likely looking at replacing the pump seal, impeller, and motor bearing. Probably better off to get a new pump/motor assembly.
