Hi , I'm a newbie on this forum and was wondering if any of you folk out there had any knowledge of this. I was replacing the pump in a maaxspa sportspro where the existing pump had a larger than normal union nut on the suction inlet of the wet end. I decided the easiest method of replacement was to change the wet end end plate from the old pump to the new. When I opened up the wet end of the old pump and let it dry out I could see what appeared to be a lot of metal filings (possibly aluminium) on the inside surface of the wet end. Any ideas where these could be coming from as I cant think of any metal to metal contact in the workings of the tub.

Are you certain they are metal? Have you tried to wipe them out? Some wet ends are fiberglass reinforced and if they don't wipe out, it could be the glass fibers you see reflecting the light.

Hi Charger, thanks for the quick reply. You could be right about these filings being glass fibre and not metal. The worrying thing is that they can be wiped out so they were therefore circulating in the water. A potential irritant for the user I would think. There was a floating flow isolator in this wet end and I am wondering if where the surface of this was in contact with the impeller, where there are signs of wear, could this be the source of the particles I am seeing?
