Hello,

Neighbor threw out his tub so I quickly snatched it up. Neighbor said that pump and wiring was bad per repairman. I looked at wires nothing burnt or charred any where. Plugged it in and the motor just hummed, I had it disconnected from the jets so I started spinning the pump and it slowly started to spin then a little click and seemed to be running fine. Is this a starter capacitor? If so how hard is it to replace? The motor is Magnetek 110v not sure of model probably two speed since four wires. Thanks in advance for any help.
:D

It would seem like a start capacitor went south... if you have a motor with a "can" attached to the top or side, the capacitor is located under that. If not, it is located behind the rear motor cover. Both easily accessable, and can be purchased at your local electric motor and bearing supply house.

My pump is behaving the same... intermittently & increasingly: humming and refusing to start. I took it apart and when I give the shaft a little help (turning it manually just a bit) the pumps starts running normally.

The motor has 2 cans on top, housing 2 capacitors, it is an aquaflo 1.5hp pump and it uses a 1081 motor if i remember correctly. Is there a way to determine which of the capacitors needs to be replaced?

Thanks!

you can remove the two cans and check for obvious signs, such as corosion, broken or loose connection, etc.... but since they are easy to remove and can't be hooked up wrong, I would take them in to be checked. Any electrical motor supply store would be able to do this at very very little, most often, no charge.
