Installed a new pump 2hp, 2sp and it would only stay on low speed for approx 2 min before overheating and tripping the breaker. When tried to get it to go into high speed it would just click on and off repeatedly. I had an electrician come out and put a new spa subpanel electrical box with an gfci breaker in it so Im sure the electrical wiring is correct and the pump still behaves the same as before. He says the pump is bad. I never used the pump yet, its brand new, could it be bad out of the box? Is there anyway to tell without shipping it back to the manufacturer for warranty. thanks

without knowing more information, it sounds like a pump that is wired for 220V being powered by 110. Undervoltage will do exactly what you are describing. Be sure to double check to make sure your pump is getting the proper voltage.

Sounds exactly like my problem!

My pump will run on low speed for 20 sec, then trip off for several minutes

It seems to run ok on high, but if you let it run for a long time that will trip too.
