Hello all, I have a question about spa pumps.

I recently aquired a used vita spa model 'vintage'

When i first filled with with water and fired it up, the pump made a horrid grinding noise, and it blew a fuse. I figured it has been in storage for a while, so I replaced the fuse and banged on the motor a few times with a mellet.

i turned it on, and the spa pump came to life. I happily used my spa for a few weeks.

After a while I begand to have a problem with the selection switch, one of those air-switches that you press to switch between high jets and the blower. It died after a little while.

Now, many of you will cringe when I say this..

The access panel for the pump has a magnet switch, so when the door opens it cuts off the spa motor. I discovered when you open and close the door, you could switch between jets and blower. So for a few days i turned those on and off by opening and closeing the door.

Well, that trick does not work anymore. I can not get the jets or the blower to work. The low speed jets and cirulator works fine. As well as the heater. However when I do my door trick, i here an memtarily EEEEEER! and then it switches to low speed.

Now, here is my question, in spa motors, can just 1 speed burn out? is my problem that i burned out one speed on the motor, and that is why i am getting only low speeds and not high jets?

I am new to spas and I am having fun learning about them. Someone let me know what they think of my problem.

More than likely you have a problem with the circuit inside the spa control system, the loud noise that you are hearing could be the control system attempting to engage both the high and the low speed at the same time. See if you can bypass the magnet and then check to see if you get voltage out of both the red and the black on the pump receptacle at the same time...this should never be able to happen so make sure you press buttons and everything when you are checking...otherwise I reccomend calling the experts at
