Hi, my pump since a few months ago is starting to do this humming. In the beginning I thought it was the ventilation holes at the bottom that were full of dirt. So after some cleaning I fixed it and started working again. Now I am trying everything the usual I used to do for the past 4 months since i bought the house and it is not working. I am using the pump for a pond full of fishes and I need to make it work as faster as I can. I read some stuff in the forum so I believe is the starter capacitor. I took it out (disconnected) from the top of the pump and I powered it just to see what happens and the hummed noise keep on the pump, I am wishing that a bad capacitor is the cause of the sound so I will be more than happy to buy one. I would like some advice on here before I make any other move. By the way I hear that some one mention something about that shaft to make it run manually but in this model I don’t see any shaft at the out side. Please let know what to do, and if it is worth to buy a new capacitor. My capacitor looks in good shape. Just a little of corruption around, but nothing bad in the contactors or wires. But I know that the problem on it can be just in the inside. :(

Thank you

when a motor has a bad capacitor, you can often start the pump by turning the shaft by hand, but this is ONLY for diagnostics, and not a sign of proper operation. If you can spin start the motor, you would have a bad capicitor. However, bad bearings, low or improper voltage, and a stuck impeller can cause this problem as well.
