Post subject: pump for jets sometimes wont start
PostPosted: Sat May 06, 2006 8:50 pm
:?: :? My "Caldera-Summit", single 2 speed pump won't stay on, and sometimes won't start. High speed jets, sometimes will work and stay on. Low speed jets you can hear motor (5-15 sec.) the stops.
Restarting after year. Already replaced: bad starter capasitor (motor fine),new control box(I think that is what it was called, has about 15 wires that went to it! about 5"box)$$$
All relays and fuses- fine
Tried loosening the union fitting to see if air was in line(didn't appear so)

HELP! tired of trouble shooting! But will trudge on, with some advice

Assuming the capacitor is still good (should be two of them if it's a two speed) I would say the next possibility would be bad or worn bearings, causing the motor rotor to shift sideways and lock against the windings. If you can, try turning the motor by hand and see if you feel any roughness, as good bearings will allow it to smoothly turn without sound or feel of roughness.
