Just purchased a used spa and have placed it in backyard. It is wired for 220V with a 50 amp gfci breaker. At the main panel is a 40 amp breaker (It doesn't make sense to me). When I turn the power on the digital read out turns on and the pump begins to push water through the system. After about a minute the pump shuts off and the digital display blinks of and on. After being off for about a minute the pump begins again and runs for another minute. I can not tell if the heater is turning on or not. It feels pretty cold durning the whole process.

Any thoughts on what is happening. If it is not a simple fix who would you call firs an electrican or a spa doctor?

could you provide more information, such as the manufacturer of the spa or the control system, if you have multiple pumps and which one is running, etc?

I should have thought about giving more info earlier. Southwest Industries is the manufacture of the spa. The controler is a Nu-Wave MM#1. It came with almost no documentation. It has a single pump with what I assume is a hi/low switch.
