We thought it wood be cool to hide the spa and also to keep the racoons and other animals away from the spa.

The install took a lot of thought as the deck was already in place.

The first step was to cut the existing deck planks and beams to create the opening. The two sides with the beam ends had additional 2x8 beams attached across the ends to form a box.

We then removed 14-18 inches of soil to lower the ground level for 2" of crushed rock and a 4" concrete slab. The Slab was poured 11Ft Square to create the crawl way around the tub for maintenace. A drain was added to the center on the Slab and at the side (for the tub drain) and the outlet was run 40Ft to the edge of the Property.

It took 9 people to roll the tub onto the deck, up a temporary ramp. We then used 4x6 posts across the opening to support the tub before attaching two slings supported by 4 block and tackles.

The tub was protected during the lowering operation by a temporary frame on the base to spread the load.

The "Hatch" was formed using the original deck planks (2x6's) connected to new "beams". The beams were cut down to 2.5" center, 3" middle and 4" outside to follow the slope of the cover. 1.5" angle iron was added to the hatch to support the opeing for the step. The hatch is lifted using an Electic Hoist (440Lbs).

The step is covered by a separate section of Decking that is maunally removed after the hatch is open.

The Spa is a Mark III Millenium from HydroSpa.
