A few days ago, my home power flickered overnight (a common occurrence in my area). Later that day, I checked on my hot tub and found that it was about 3 degrees cooler than it's supposed to be, and flashing PSI.

The hot tub is a Blue Ridge Spa, by Jacuzzi. It came with the house, but the inspection date on the paperwork is 2001 so I'm guessing that it was installed in either 2001 or 2002. I had to have the shaft seal replaced in the circulation pump last year, but that's the only work that it's needed.

PSI usually means that there's an obstruction in one of the filters (it has 2), so I took both out and cleaned them. But this didn't help. I took both filters out again and scrubbed the screen beneath the filter, then tried to reset it with the filters out; again, nothing. You can hear the pump click on, then it buzzes for a few seconds, then clicks off again and flashes PSI.

I removed the front cover, and used the release valve to let out some water, thinking that it might flush out the pipes, but this had no impact. I then took off the cover to the electrical area and checked the fuse, which was fine (I replaced it anyway, just in case; but alas, no change).

I've looked everywhere for a reset button or a pressure switch, but don't see anything. I've left the breaker off for awhile in the hopes that this would reset it, but this didn't do anything except save me some electricity :-) The jets come on just fine, so I know that there's not a blockage in those tubes; it's somewhere between the filter and the pump, or the pump itself.

Any suggestions on how to move forward from here?

TIA,

Jason

Does the shaft of the motor spin freely? If so, turn it to a different spot and try starting again. You may have to replace your motor capacitor(s). If the shaft is seized up you'll need a new motor.

I don't hear anything spin, but I wouldn't know where to look to see the shaft; there's no noise to follow other than the buzz that lasts for a second when it tries to come on.

When I open the bottom, I see 3 main things:

1. The big square panel in the front that has the circuit board and plugs;

2. There's a silver cylinder to the right of the circuit board that has the thermometer attached to it, which I assume is the heat pump;

3. There's a red pump to the right of that that looks like an alternator on a car. I'm guessing that this is the circulation pump.

Where would I find the motor in these? If it's in the red pump, then would I have to take it apart to see the motor and turn it to a different spot?

And exactly what do you mean when you say to turn it to a different spot? Does the shaft align with something, like a distributor in a car?

Thanks for the help,

Jason

The circ pump is the little red alternator looking thing, and it isn't the same as the type of motor I was describing. You can still take it off line and see if you notice any scale build up or anything blocking the impeller, but you'll probably have to replace it.
