I have a California Cooperage Spa by Coleman about 8 years old. Four weeks ago, on the day I am leaving to go out of town for a week, I checked the spa because the previous day the jets did not come on with the first depression of the button but after a few trys the jets did start. That day that I am hours away from leaving I noticed that when pressing the jet on button a low hum was made and the jets did not start. I turned the temp down to its lowest setting and informed the house sitter that there was trouble with the tub and not to fool with it during my abscence. When I returned I investigated and found that the power connections to the control box had all melted thru and the circut breaker was tripped. I ordered a new main power connection module and replaced it. All worked fine for about 8 or 10 days except the circulation pump sounded louder and shriller. Then again the jets stopped running and the low hum was back for a few seconds when the jet button is pressed and then silence. This hum and silence cycle continued intermittently. The circuit breaker is not tripping but I have since manually tripped the breaker to keep the unit off until I get more info. Are these indications of the circulation pump going bad or could there be more to this problem then replacing a pump. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Your pump motor is bad and needs to be replaced.

You are correct Dr. Spa. I have since removed the pump and have taken the thing apart. In the wet end of the pump the impeller is frozen in place. Likewise the electrical motor is frozen in place as well. Also evident is that some of the bearings look busted and in pieces lodged around the pump shaft. I have taken note of all the information on the lables of both pump and motor and will order an complete replacement unit. Thanks for your post and confirming this repair.
