Started replacing the circulation pump (SilentFlo 5000) this morning on our Hot Springs Classic (FH161003; purchaced in April 1996) with a replacement from the local Hot Springs dealer. The old pump (SN 12/95-8478844) is a 2 speed and the new pump is (SN 3456021) is a single speed. The wiring diagram for the new pump shows where to attach green, black and white wires (and exterior ground). The existing pump cord also has a red wire attached to the old pump (looks like it attaches to a capacitor) (the two pumps have a different capacitor setup). Do I have the wrong pump? If not, what do I do with the remaining red wire from the existing cord? Thanks for your help!

You originally had a silentflo 5002, the silentflo 500 will work fine. Just wrap the two "hot leads" (low speed and high speed) together under the same terminal designated for the hot lead according to your wiring diagram. Polarity doesn't matter on the SF 5000.

So, you have (3) terminals on the new pump...ground, Neutral, and Hot.
Place the two leads (high speed and low speed) from the cord on the single "hot" terminal of the circ. pump, neutral to neutral, and ground to ground. It will work fine :)

Hope that's clear

Enjoy :D
