Hot Springs Blinking Power Light

Postby gg1100 » Sun Sep 16, 2007 9:08 am

I aquired a 2000 Hot Springs Souvereign from a neighbor. The unit hasn't been used in a couple years. I fired it up and got it going. I left it running and when I came back it had a blinking power light. The manual tells you to disconnect the power for 30 seconds & check the filters. Neither of these troubleshooting tips worked. Is there any additonal troubleshooting I can do before calling service?

It is most likely the 'silent flo' circulation pump. That is the small pump that should run continuously and pushes water though the heater. It is pretty common for these to fail when the tub has been out of operation for a period of time. You may be able to get the pump going by tapping the pump with something.

If it is operating properly you should have a flow of water coming up from the bottom 'drain'. If the pump is working then you may have a problem with the hi-limit thermister that screws into the heater.

The pump is working fine. Even with the light blinking the pump is running. I think it has something to do with the heat. I can start the tub and it will run for an hour or so then it will go into this error. I put a new heater since it was leaking. There are two sensors on it. Could I have twisted and damage one of them or should I look elsewhere?

What should it read? Do you have to drain the tub to change it since it screwed into the heater?

No need to drain the tub, you meter from the end that plugs into the control box.

I'm at home and can't recall the exact values, it depends on the temperature. I want to say that if the water is in the 90's the value may be around 8 or 9 ohms. Swine? If you check both of the thermistors they should read relatively the same value, if one of them is off more than an ohm or so then it is bad.

They are both measuring 7 ohms--- actual water temperature 96 degrees. I can turn on the pump 110 breaker and can see a small amount of water being recirculated--- I can also turn on the jets and it runs fine---- the minute I turn on the heater 220 breaker the red light flashs and nothing runs.

Another thought could the recircualtion pump not be putting out enough and causing this?

Has the original heater been replaced with a stainless looking one with two "tubes"?

If so that could be the case if the heater is actually getting too hot in the first minute that the power is turned on. Does the heater get real hot when you first turn on the breaker?

I just changed the T Stat and the High Limt Thermistor and it is currently working fine. I will post if this doesn't work

I guess that worked for you? I have the same issue. I power down the tub then power it back up and after a few minutes get a blinking power light. I cleaned the filters really well since this is the only other solution offered by the manual but that did not help.

What year is yours? First thing to do is confirm that the small cirulction pump is pumping water, and the filters are clean.

It is a 2003 and yes the filters are clean that is the first thing I did, I used some cartridge cleaning solution that you soak the cartridges in overnight. I am going to remove the small pump and clean the impeller I assume is attached to the motor. I got a hold of the previous owner and he told me he did this a couple of times.

I have this same issue I have so far replaced the circulation pump that was not working. the new one started shutting down until i removed the supply filter (grey tube, first one). since i noted supply was slow. So i replaced all the filter with new ones. now the circulation pump stays on good flow but the power light still flashes, I believe the temp sensors are bad. I will ohm check them to verify.
so who sells them and how much are you paying?
