icon w/ Balboa controller, topside controls, separate 230V breaker, 2 pump tub.
OK, so one day I notice loud noise from my tub adn walk out to find it completely dry. I had the suction side split nut on the heater diintegrate. Patched that up, refilled, balanced the water and figured I was done.
Wrong. No heat! So I go poking around (with the help of this forum) and find that the element is not shorted and the pressure switch--mounted on-top of the heater tube--seems to be working fine. I pulled out the filters and bingo!--heat. So I clean them with the expensive stuff and throw them back in. Tub works properly for two days.
Now, the circulation pump (pump 1 on low) stays on all the time but is keeping temperature. Pulling the filters does not help this.
Do we think the surge of water coming from the open 2" pipe right next to the controller fried the controller? The boards do not appear to be "weatherized."
TIA

Oops--I was incorrect. THe heater still will not engage unless one of the filters are removed. But the pump still runs forever, even if the tub is up to temp.

If the heater works without a filter- clean that filter! If it still won't engage- adjust the press/sw.
Hopefully- it's just in an electronically timed filter cycle, thus why it runs continuously on low speed. See if you can adjust the filter mode.

I cleaned the daylight out of those filters.
How do I adjust the pressure switch? Do I rotate the little serrated black "dial" until the heater will stay on w/ the filters in place?

OK--That did not work. But I have noticed something. . .
With or without filters, my filter caps seem to be sucking in air. I suspect bad O-rings or something. I can now see signs of cavitation that follow the "clicks" of the pressure sensor. Bypassing the switch fires the heater right up.
Now, this is what disturbs me--this thing has always surged when pump 1 was placed on high. On low, it was typically smooth (hence why it worked).
So, could a filter cap seal be causing this or am I fooling myself? I do loose water level but do so very, very slowly--slow enough to blame it on evaporation ( 1/2" over2 weeks)--and with the rain I have had of recent, it is hard to locate any seepage, though pump 1 may be my first suspect ( it looks a little more damp under the wet end--but not by much).
If I grease the fiter caps to temp seal them and then close the slide valave on the output of the pump, will it burp out any trapped air?
Might be a good test.

If the filter caps are sucking in air- your water level is too low, or your filters are really, really dirty.
Try adding a little water.
