Post subject: Cal Spa with Balboa Control showing 'SF' - bought used.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 08, 2004 8:42 pm
I bought a used Cal spa from a dealer who said they had just rebuilt all the pumps. I finnaly got it running but it has some strange quirks, the jets turn on and off and recently the system shuts down and shows a symbol "SF" :?: Any thoughts?

Ok, the SF is an exclusive to Cal Spas with a Balboa Control system. What it means is that your suction safety switch has a problem, or there's a restriction in the water suction line.

It could've just sucked in some air which would also cause the problem.

How often is it doing it?

To reset this thing just press any key and it'll try to start up again.

If it doesn't work post again and let us know.

Thanks.

Thanks for the repy, I attempted to remove any air from the pump and restarted the system. It restarted and appeared normal until I tried to cycle the jets through their operations. On the second stage of jet operation, the system went back to the "SF" sysmol and stopped running. In addition the "turbo jets" turned on at one point, uninvited. I am begining to think this thing is posessed. I would really appreatiate your thoughts. Thanks again.

Well, I'm not supposed to say this, but.... I've seen it a lot and I just bypass the suction switch and it gets rid of the issue altogether.
