I know that the SF code on the CalSpa control (GE model 7000) means that the system shut down because of the safety suction feature, this should be reset by pressing on one of the control buttons. This does not work to reset, is there a different way to clear this or does this indicate other problems?

Per CalSpas: Check all suction fittings and filter cartridge(s) for obstructions. To reset press any button"
I would try powering down the system to clear the error.
Try running without a filter, it could be clogged but not look like it.
It could be the switch, order a ELPSU219: Suction Safety Switch, Herga.

I got that error and was having a hell of a time with it. Called CalSpas and got zero help, other then giving me a number to a local dealer. Called the dealer and he was a great help and told me how to fix the problem in a flash. The SF safety system is useless and only required in California. This is what you have to do. If you look at your pump(s) you will see a blue cover over a switch on the pipe by the pump(s). Follow the wire(s) into the control box...make sure power is off! Unplug the connector the wires are connected to. Problem fixed...error gone! Now look at those blue covers and see if one of them is leaking. If one of them is simply unscrew it from the pipe and plug the hole with a towel and duct tape. Buy a plug at the hardware store...either plastic, brass or cooper. DO NOT USE GALVANIZED and remove the duct tape and screw in the plug. Your tub will now be as good as new and you will never get locked out with a SF error again.

How is it working? I have a CalSpa 5000 and the water is no longer being heated and I believe it is due to the safety suction problem. I perfomed all of the standard troubleshooting techniques, filter, etc. and eventually had to hire a technician to come out; $100.00 later nothing has changed. I am preparing to purchase a new topside control panel as recommended by the manufacturer but would like to try disconnecting the sensor and vactuator as you suggested.
