Post subject: Newport Spa, United Spa Controller. Help, spa blew up.
PostPosted: Thu Mar 11, 2004 9:06 pm
I put new filters in my spa last night. This morning, no lights, no power. I opened controller and it smelled like burning electical. A small relay to the right was partially melted and the wire going into it also. Tried a new 2 amp fuse, and the bus fuse checks out ok. But when I flip breaker on house, 2 amp fuse blows. I have a Newport Spa, about 5 years old, with a United Spas 3E controller/220/ozone. Ive had a problem before with the spa overheating to 120 degrees, I would just reset and it would start working again. Any Ideas? Do I need a new pack or controller? or circuit card/relay? Im pretty handy and think I could replace parts if needed. Thanks!!!!

here is another pix, sorry the other one is so big. You can see the relay and melted wire on the right. Not sure what the little round component is in the middle, but it has some sticky stuff around it.

Another normal day in hot tub land.

Your board blew up to save the fuse.

Perhaps contact the dealer and see what a new circuit board's gonna cost?

Otherwise, send me a private message or email so I can talk to you directly. This is not a situation to go back and forth to check posts.

Things we need to know:
1. Is a gfci installed inline to this tub.
2. How old is the spa.

Something weird happened here. This board should not have fried the way it did. It would help if you went ahead and registered on the board, we don't blast you with any junk and you can disable email if you like. Makes things easier.

Thanks

PS: I resized and cropped your pics.
