I don't know if this is a problem or not I would like some info about it.
I just got a free tub from a friend of a friend, and got it up and working this week. Its a Great lakes Spas, about a 1997-98 model. 240V Single 2 Sp pump
There is no timer for the heater, or the filtration. It's a Balboa Spa controller with a digital keypad up top
My question is that once it gets up to temp, every 2-3 minutes the pump and heater will kick on for 30 seconds and them shut off. The water stays at the set temp, and when we use the spa, it will run continuously to recover the heat loss.
Is this normal operation? It seems like there is too small a temperature differential setting in the controls. My concern is that it will burn out the pump with soo many start cycles.
Any help would be appreciated
Chris

What are the temperatures that it starts and shuts off at? Typically a digital control system will have about 3 degrees of fluctuation, and if this is about what you have, consider it normal.

It stays between 103 and 104, it only runs for 30 seconds which doesn't seem long enough to even raise it 1 degree.
It also has been runnng for a few hours at a time, does it have a built in, non-adjustable filtration timer?

Many spas have filtering programs built into them, but I can't say for certain with Great Lakes, since I don't have any experiance with them. Filter cycles typically run for around 15 minutes or so.
I cant say for certain what is causing your cycling. The only thing that comes to mind is that the temp sensor is reading a lower temp and starts the cycle, and once the warm water reaches the sensor, it then shuts off. Does the heat indicator turn on when this happens?
