Post subject: SmarTouch 1000 with 240v Pump
PostPosted: Thu Mar 04, 2004 5:50 pm
I replaced a faulty controler with a new Smartouch 1000. I have 4-wire 240v coming into the controller and I'm using a 2-speed, 240v pump. On low speed the pump runs very slow and on high speed it makes noise but is not pumping.

I checked the voltage outout from the controller, and it is only 120v between the white (L1) and either the low or high speed, which ever is turned on.

So does that mean that the board was set up for a 120v motor? How do I change it to 240v?

The attached photo shows the common line setup for the main pump. The blue wire in this instance. If you follow that line down to the main power connector you'll see that the blue line is connected to the center (Neutral) terminal. To convert the system to 240V, then move that blue line from the Neutral terminal, over to the Red (L2) terminal.

Most important, be VERY SURE that those screws are TIGHT. If not, then you'll have a melt-down of the connector block soon.

However, this may also change the blower and ozonator to 240 at the same time!

I'm not positive about this, but just to be sure, unplug both before you power this thing up, and then do a voltage check on the blower and o3 plug outputs. If they are running 230, and you need them at 115, post back here and I'll tell you how to isolate them and get them to 115. (It's really no big deal, just lift the common (white) wires going to those plugs and run them directly to the white (Neutral) connector of the main power block).

If for any reason, you cannot understand these instructions, then do not attempt this procedure please. Otherwise you could destroy your equipment!

Let us know how it goes.

I changed the blue wire and it worked. The ozonator and blower were still 120v. All is well now! :D

Thanks
