I bought one of the 50AMP GFCI's from lowes when I hooked up my hot tub back in late march. The tub is a 1996 model 60 HUrricane products. Tested the GFCI then and it would trip when the test button was pushed. Fired up the tub and low and behold everything works! Went to test it the other day and it will not trip. I can't see anything out of the ordinary in the GFCI box. The tub still works fine. The tub has a built in GFCI that still works. I'm wondering if "A" the GFCI is/was defective or "B" maybe testing the one one the tub might have screwed the Lowes unit up?
I'm still using the tub but I would like to get this resolved soon. Thanks!

You must be referring to the Cutler-Hammer brand of GFCI breaker, yes? I have had experience with those and have had the exact same problem. What happened is that the tub I had hooked up had a bonded neutral, where the neutral in the spa box was bonded to the same lug as the ground. You can not do this with a GFI breaker. Those Cutler-Hammer breakers should be recalled, in my opinion, as this is a very important safety flaw. It fries them, making them still conduct electricity, but failing to trip on a fault. I have since switched to my all-time favorite, Square D.

In review, your breaker is shot

you need to see if you can locate a bonded neutral after the breaker

Fix problem, replace breaker, and enjoy your hot tub!

I'm not sure of the name brand but the box did say Square D on it. I will have to go to lowes and see. Thank you very much for the responce. I figured it was shot.
