How do you you repair a leaking filter housing?

depends on where the leak is at and the type of housing. If it is leaking at the screw fittings, then it's usually just an "O" ring. If it's the type with a flange, and it's leaking at the flange, it's typically an "O" ring or a gasket. If it is a cracked housing, replacement is the best option.
