Post subject: OZONE Generator, Do I need it?

I purchased a used (my first mistake) Cal Spas 1997 model A4000. There were some things wrong that I needed to fix, but when I came across the ozone generator I was puzzeled.

It was dissasembled from the spa, so I assumed it need replacing as well. I purchased a DEL OZone generator that was like the one I was replacing.

The spa is Ozone ready.

I found tubing that was laying around the guts, so I assumed that was the ozone hook up.

I set it up (as best I could by the directions), but nothing seems to be working.

I don't know the basic concept of the thing, so the installation does not look like anything would happen. Is water supposed to actually pass through this thing?

The hanging tube I found in the spa is connected to the ozone (via the check valve), and the power is connected. Is that all there is to it? Also, there is an arrow that denotes flow on the check valve, should the arrow point to the unit or away?

And another problem... With the ozone hooked up (probably the wrong way) the spa runs on economy, but when I switch it to standard the GFCI breaks. This only happens when the ozone is plugged into the spa's control box.

I'm a first timer, so go easy on me!!
Thanks,
Kurt

No water should pass through the ozone generator.

Ozone is a gas (03). Most ozone generators only produce ozone, and use an ozone injector to draw the ozone from the ozone gen. into the tub.

If it's tripping the GFCI with the ozone gen hooked in, it may be bad, or maybe it got wet??

the ozone is a water pirification sytem that puts a gas into the spa so you wont have to use ph shock or any other chemicals that dry out your skin or hair. get the ozone! and water doesnt flow through it.

Ozone is just an oxidizer, you still need to maintain and balance proper PH, and still need to use some sanitizer as well. Ozone isn't the end all to chemicals.
