I've just purchased a new Bengal spa. I called a different dealer to see if I got a good deal .he told me hot springs had just lost thier U.L. listing. Can you tell me if this is true.

First off, you don't 'lose' a UL rating. A UL rating is based on live testing of the product presented to a laboratory. The same product is sold with the specific UL registration number. (well, you could lose your rating, if you were to change the specifications of the product without receiving the proper certification for it... eg; marketing a different product with a UL registration number that wasn't meant for it... ie fraudulent use of a UL registration mark).

To get another UL registration, you must submit a new product to the lab to be tested. Upon successful completion, you will receive your approval and registration number for the UL mark. Subsequent sales of this product will carry that particular registration number.

Also, for what it's worth, a spa doesn't necessarily have to be UL rated. The UL mark is used to assure the customer that the product meets or exceeds a certain base level worst case set of test conditions established by the UL organization. There are other certification organizations, such as ETL that can be used.

Secondly, if this is a real dealer of Hot Springs™ Spas, I'm sure that the dealer technical support department at 1-800-999-4688 would like to know exactly who is spreading this kind of garbage.

Another thing, if you look at the specs for the Tiger River spas, you'll see that they carry the service marks as follows:

Electrical Safety - ETL and CE Listed

So for this product they didn't even use UL. (I don't know why anyone would as UL is the most expensive mark to obtain. ETL is much more cost effective and similarly well recognized).

Now that you've been educated on the safety markings used on customer products, I wouldn't necessarily kill yourself over the price you paid for your tub. Especially by calling ANOTHER dealer AFTER you purchased it!

Of course... call me up and I'll sell it to you for $50 less... That is if you want to buy another one!

(see what I mean?)

Enjoy your tub and have a great time in it!
