I have a vitaspa, and i have found that hair is collecting at the bottom of the filter suction, there is a plastic grid but certainly not enough to stop hair from entering pump, I swapped out filters and it still is present.
a) I saw on ebay something for a sundance, it looked like a coffee filter, should i be using that at the bottom of the filter?
b)What about the supplies at bottom of tub, what about hair entering thru there? It can't be good. ThaNKS

It may sound obscure, but a shower cap on the head would cure this problem. There is no recourse for preventing hair from entering the suction lines.

Well, I have to say and have taken alot of ribbing over the years (heh, take off the sweater) but the hair is not from my head, I rarely submerge.

In that case I'm not sure I can provide you with a solution, aside from finding some way to cover the suction inlets with a fine mesh material. Perhaps something that has elastic around the edge that can be slipped on and off for cleaning? The filter housing should be ok, if it's before the pump, since it's job is to filter out all that anyway.

Well I figured the hair was not getting in thru the filter media, and found the bottom where it locks onto fitting was a little loose. So maybe that's where the hair gets in. I took Oatey blue and built up the area a little and now have a tighter fit, wait a coupla days and see if it prevents hair down in the suction inlet. doing the same to my backup filter. Are these pumps capable of overcoming the hair in the system, will the chemicals break it down over time? Thanks

My experiance with pumps is that it takes a very long hair to actually become bound in the pump parts. Most likely they will just pass through and get a second shot at being cought by the filter media. The chemicals in a hot tub are not strong enough to dissolve hair.

Hope that helps

Well after running the improved filter for several days, I removed it and checked the suction inlet, no hair present! So it seems like that was a little simple improvement, now what I'm gonna do is always apply a few additional coats to my backup filter when switching them out and always get a tight fit. Thanks again Charger.

Wonderful news! Glad to hear that you were able to work up a solution.
